Ruga Settlements; Is it the Way Forward?

The Nigeria's Federal Government had confirmed that the Ruga settlements is a sureway to curtails the insistent clashes between farmers and herders in the states, hence, necessitates the need to gazette lands in the 36 states of the federation for the settlement though optional for states to participate

A statement by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu established that 12 states have indicated interest in the pilot programme, stressing that it is
not only for herders alone, but all animal husbandry businesses alike

The presidency also buttressed that this initiative would create jobs, attract investors among other things, beside the core objective of curbing the persistence clashes between farmers and herders

Ruga settlemnt seeks to create a perceived environment where migrant pastoral families would settle in an organized place with provision of needed and adequate basic amenities such as schools, hospitals, vet clinics, markets, manufacturing outlets and road networks
